If you listen how I play the rhythm you will hear that the chord is played before the bass note that comes on the 1st beat in the bar. Nelson Faria is doing exactly the same.

Hi! Hope I understand your question. In the note examples above there are two stems written. One for the bass notes and one for the other notes and that´s why it seems like there are a lots of quarter notes in the bars. It´s common to do so in some comping notes when one wants to separate the bass from the other tones.
